In the summer of 2025, Audible commissioned Sheridan College Faculty of Animation, Arts & Design (FAAD) part-time faculty member Kate Jackson to create a hand-embroidered artwork celebrating the launch of the new Audible Original recording of Pride and Prejudice.

First installed at Toronto’s Word on the Street Festival in David Pecaut Square, the project invited audiences to engage with textile practice as both a contemporary art form and participatory experience. Visitors listened to the audio trailer, photographed themselves with the artwork, and learned introductory stitching techniques through hands-on embroidery kits and live demonstrations.

Central to the realization of this work was the participation of fourteen students, alumni, and faculty from Sheridan College’s Bachelor of Craft & Design Program, who contributed to all aspects of the commission. For some, this marked their first experience working on a professional project of this scale; for others, established artists and makers themselves, it was an opportunity to reconnect with their Sheridan community of craftspeople and friends. Requiring more than 700 hours of handwork, the project reflects how craft practices continue to evolve through collaboration, public engagement, and creative partnerships.

This exhibition highlights the ongoing role that craft and design play within contemporary culture, everyday life, and community building. By bringing together education, collaborative making, and partnerships with industry, the project demonstrates how fine craft practices can extend beyond academic settings to create meaningful professional opportunities and connect with broader audiences.
