Echoes of Myth

September 23 – October 5, 2024
Hazel McCallion Campus B-Wing Gallery

The Classic of Mountains and Seas is an iconic work in Chinese culture, brimming with imaginative and mythological elements, much like the Odyssey or the Divine Comedy in Western literature. It documents not only ancient landscapes and fantastical beasts but also holds the collective dreams and spiritual beliefs of the Chinese people across millennia. For countless generations, every Chinese child has imagined a foreign world through this work, with its mythological storytelling shaping a unique culture identity in our collective memory.

This exhibition, organized by the Chinese Student Associations of Sheridan College and the Ontario College of Art & Design University ( OCAD U). presents local student artworks across various media, including painting, sculpture, and installations. These pieces reimagine the mythical creatures and wonders from Chinese classical mythology, while simultaneously blurring the lines between tradition and modernity, between fantasy and reality.
